There once was a man, who lived during 22-23 centuaries B.C., named Sargon. He, with hard work, conquered all of the city-states and combined them under his empire. By doing so, he created the world's first empire. But the citizens of ancient Mesopotamia didn't approve of his ruling, so they went to war with him many times. The Akkadian Empire stretched from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea. He built(or restored; it is not very clear in the clay tablets) the city of Akkad( also known as Agade) along the Euphrates River.
Sargon ruled the Akkadian Empire for 56 years well. He was successful in ruling the Akkadian Empire because he unified the empire well. After Sargon died, his son, Rimush, ruled the empire for nine years when he died. Rimush's brother, Manishtusu, took over the empire. There is some evidence that Manishtusu purposefully killed his brother to have the throne to himself. Manishtusu reigned for 10 years. He improved the way of life for the Akkadian citizens many ways.
Manishtusu's son, Naram-Sin, took over the empire for 36 years. The Akkadian Empire lasted for a total of 142 year. 142-56(Sargon)-9(Rimush)-10(Manishtusu)-36(Naram-Sin)=31. Shar-Kali-Sharri supposedly did the remaining 31 years. After the empire fell due to the loss of control over the empire, the city-states of Mesopotamia remained city-states.
